After careful review, we've decided to deprecate the experimental Hidden Item Rules for Android - Hidden Active View Focus and Hidden Informative View Focus. These experimental rules have gone through many iterations as we've gathered and received feedback over 2 years. We've found that these automated testing checks have the potential to return false positives and have decided to remove them from our library. We will continue to evaluate the potential for new rules.

Results for these rules will be marked as ignored starting in version 4.2.0, and will be fully removed in a later version.

note

This is an experimental rule, and therefore its result(s) are considered to be in beta testing. Learn more about experimental rules and how you can help improve them.

WCAG 2.0 - 2.4.3 A Impact - Critical

Interactive views should not be covered by another view, either entirely or partially. Toolbar and Dialog controls are ignored.

Impact

Issues found by this rule impact people with low vision who rely on assistive technology to understand a control's use and or access the control.

note

The version of Android, device, and manufacturer may play a part in issue detection.

Confirmation

  1. Turn on TalkBack
  2. Navigate within your app control or interactive view
  3. One of the following will happen:
    • Inaccessible: The view was not announced by TalkBack, or, it was announced in the wrong order.
    • Accessible: The view was announced, in the correct order, by TalkBack.

How to Fix

Move the active view or overlaying view to ensure neither overlaps another view.
