Install the Axe Accessibility Analyzer

Download the App

The Axe Accessibility Analyzer is available in the Google Play Store. Download the Axe Accessibility Analyzer to a physical device or an emulator. Alternately, scan the QR Code below with your device's camera:

Note: If you are testing on multiple emulators, you will need to download the Analyzer app on each one.

First-Time Setup

Follow the steps below to begin scanning your Android apps for accessibility. If you've done this before, skip ahead to Testing your Android Apps for Accessibility.

Open the Accessibility Analyzer on your device or emulator, and follow the prompts to get the proper permissions in place:

1. Choose your server configuration before signing in. Your organization administrator can provide this information.

   1. For standard SaaS, choose 'Standard Server.'
   2. For On Prem or Private Cloud choose 'Custom Server,' and enter the backend URL provided by your organization’s administrator.

2. Choose a sign-in method and select 'Sign In.' A browser window will open.

3. Enter your Deque account credentials to sign in.

4. You will be introduced to Projects. If this is your first mobile project, it will be named automatically.

   note

   If you have existing mobile projects in Axe Developer Hub, you are able to select which project you would like to use for results when you start your scanning session. Select the hyperlinked project name on the 'Time to scan' screen to access the project selection screen, and choose where to send results for the current scan session. You can also navigate to Axe Developer Hub to Create a new project for your results.

   Note: As a best practice, you should have results from automated test runs and mobile scan sessions in separate projects.

   
   

5. Setup draw overlay:

   1. Select 'Open settings' to enable draw overlay - this allows the Axe DevTools floating action button to be available on the screen no matter what application you have open.
   2. Select Axe and toggle on.
   3. Use the back arrow to return to the app.

6. Allow access to accessibility settings:

   1. On the following screen, select 'Open settings' to return to the device settings.
   2. Toggle 'Allow modifying system settings' - this unlocks the main functionality of the Analyzer app and allows Axe DevTools access to the accessibility service information within Android.
   3. Use the back arrow to return to the app.

7. Allow screen recording and casting permission.

Create a New Project in Developer Hub

If you want to create a new project for results rather than saving to an existing one, go to Axe Developer Hub. Select the button to add a new project, and select 'Mobile analyzer' as the integration method. You will see confirmation that your project was created on the next screen. When you return to the Analyzer app, find your new project on the project selection screen.
