Download and Install

  1. Open the App Store on your Mac. (Click the App Store icon in your Dock, or search for it in Spotlight.)
  2. Search for Xcode in the App Store search bar.
  3. Click 'Get' or 'Install' next to Xcode. (It's free!)
  4. You may need to enter your Apple ID password or use Touch ID/Face ID.
  5. Wait for the download - Xcode is large (around 10-15 GB), so this will take some time depending on your internet connection.

First Launch Setup

  1. Open Xcode from your Applications folder or Launchpad.
  2. Accept the license agreement when prompted.
  3. Install additional components - Xcode will prompt you to install required components and simulators. Click 'Install' to proceed with the defaults.
  4. Enter the admin password for your Mac when requested to complete the component installation.

What's Next?

Once everything is installed, Xcode will open to the welcome screen. Next, Verify Xcode Command Line Tools are installed.
